Complete Post Archive, 2007–2013

This page indexes everything the original site published. It exists because the archive's URLs outlived its pages: links pointing at individual posts, at monthly archives such as /2009/11/, and at the legacy /index.php/ permalink form are still in circulation fifteen years later, and this index is where most of them now land.

What the corpus is, and what survived

The recovered URL map holds 138 archive paths. Ten of those are month-archive pagination (/2007/06/page/2/ and similar), so the real corpus is 128 dated posts, published between 18 May 2007 and 26 April 2013; the site itself stayed online until October 2013. Forty-seven of them are from 2007 alone. Output then fell steadily — thirty-seven posts in 2008, twenty-four in 2009, fourteen in 2010, and six across the whole of 2011 to 2013.

Body text was recovered for only part of the corpus. Snapshots preserved by the Internet Archive captured the site's homepage repeatedly — and because the theme rendered five complete posts inline on each page, each homepage capture carries five full articles — but individual post pages were captured much less evenly. Thirty-two of the 128 posts were recovered with their full body text intact. The remaining ninety-six survive only as a title, a date and a URL.

That distinction is reflected exactly in the list below. Titles shown as links are pages that exist on this site with their original text restored. Titles shown as plain text are a record of what was published at that URL, and nothing more. They are listed rather than quietly dropped because an index of what a site actually contained is itself worth preserving, and because several of them are still cited by name in forum threads and mailing-list archives that have outlived the posts themselves.

Nothing in this index has been reconstructed, paraphrased from memory, or invented. Where a title could not be read from a snapshot it was derived from the URL slug, which is what the original publishing system generated from the title in the first place. One 2007 post was published without a usable slug and is listed as untitled.

How the dates work

Every URL carries its own publication date, in the form /YYYY/MM/DD/slug/. That was the original permalink structure and it has been preserved unchanged, so a link written in 2009 still resolves to the same path today. An earlier permalink form prefixed with /index.php/ was in use before the site switched, and those addresses redirect to the clean equivalent rather than resolving separately.

Dates in this index are the original publication dates. They are not review dates, and they are not the date the page was rebuilt. A note dated 2008 describes the software as it behaved in 2008. Several of the procedures in the restored pages are no longer correct as current advice, which is stated plainly on each of those pages; the Microsoft product lifecycle documentation is the quickest way to confirm what is still supported.

Reading the archive by subject instead

If a specific error code or command is not what brought you here, the five subject hubs are a better entry point than a chronological list: Internet Information Server, Exchange Server, Windows and Server, Hardware and Security, Viruses, Trojans. Each introduces its subject as the archive covers it and lists the notes filed under it. The front page describes the archive as a whole, and about this archive sets out the editorial policy behind it.
